11 Apr Open Night 2017
Open night at the Woodmead Halls
AN OPEN night for representatives of all local organisations in Lyme Regis will be held at the Woodmead Halls on Saturday, April 22nd (7.30pm to 11 pm).
The halls is run in trust by a management committee on behalf of all town organisations.
The halls is already the most popular community venue in Lyme Regis, providing facilities for a multiltude of different events from wedding receptions to regular bingo sessions.
Having recently launched a development programme to improve the halls further, the management committee has invested heavily in refurbishing the kitchen facilities which will be officially opened at the open night. The new kitchen is probably the most modern facility of its kind in the town and will enable the halls to attract bigger events at which catering is required.
All users past and present are being invited to send up to four guests to the open night to hear about the development plans and also to see former halls’ chairman Stan Williams invested as life president.
Mr Williams, a veteran local councillor, took over the running of the halls two decades ago when its use had declined rapidy. He has led a team of hard-working volunteers who have built the halls into one of the best equipped in Dorset.
Acting chairman Philip Evans, in a tribute to Mr Williams and his team, said: “When Stan took over the halls bookings were in serious decline and the bar had not been used for three years. With the help of a dedicated committee, the halls have been totally renovated, providing a meeting place for numerous local organisations and interest groups. The facilities are second to none but we have plans to make them even more attractive.”
Mr Evans said they were also in negotiations with Lyme Regis Town Council to re-open the award-winning toilets at the Woodmead Halls for use by those using the Woodmead car park.
A new management team will also be unveiled at the open night.
Organisations which would like to send representatives to the open night should contact Mr Evans on 07796 951991. A welcoming drink will be offered and a buffet supper served.
