Lyme Regis Town
Band

Lyme Regis Town Band was re-formed in 1981 after a lapse of thirty years and was funded, initially, by a donation from the makers of ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’ which was filmed in Lyme Regis during that year. The band soon established itself as an integral part of the town’s community and social activities. Our Musical Director is David Tozer, a talented musician and bandsman with many years experience.

Rehearsals take place every Tuesday at the Woodmead Halls from 7.45 to 9.30pm. The Band is always keen to recruit new members and welcomes both experienced players, “rusty” players returning after a break and beginners all of whom are warmly welcomed and strongly supported.

For beginners there is a Training Band which meets every Tuesday from 7.00 to 7.45 p.m. also at the Woodmead Halls, Lyme Regis. The Band provides free tuition by band member, Ellis Holt, plus an instrument and uniform. All that is asked in return is regular attendance, dedication and an eagerness to improve. To protect young people, our teachers hold enhanced BDS certificates and we operate our own Child Protection Policy. Learners progress through to the main band at the discretion of the Musical Director. At the end of each session, trainees are encouraged to sit with the main band for part or all of the rehearsal. For further details regarding the Training Band please contact gkwarr@gmail.com in the first instance.

Lyme School of
Ballet

At Lyme School of Ballet (LSB) we teach tiny tots to teenagers, beginners to advanced students, but are particularly proud of our ever-growing community of adult and male students. Students are welcomed to all-inclusive and friendly classes.

LSB specialises in the Royal Academy of Dance’s (RAD) Ballet Syllabi. We offer classes for the RAD’s Dance To Your Own Tune programme for Pre-School dancers (aged 2.5 – 5 years old) and all their Graded Syllabi, from Pre-Primary in Dance to Grade 8. We also offer the Vocational Graded Syllabi, from Intermediate Foundation to Advanced 2. These grades include pointe work for the girls and allegro practice for the boys. Students have the chance to take RAD examinations every 18 months to progress in their studies and achieve certification in classical ballet.

We also have an established group of adult ballet dancers who attend our newly named Silver Swans® classes. Silver Swans® is a pilot programme, developed by the RAD, based on research into dance practice for adult and older learners. It aims to promote ballet for overall adult and elder communities’ health and wellbeing.
